Ben has won second prize in the Chroma Journal’s International Queer Writing Competition 2008 for his short story ‘The Luck of Finding a Stationary Car’. The prize was judged by Sarah Waters and Robert Gluck.

Judges Comment: “‘The Luck of Finding a Stationary Car’ is a page turner with ambition. It addresses a subject recognizable to any gay person – that is, the problem of lust that has no idea how to express itself, but is driven to find a way. That feeling overrides every other feeling, as well it might. At the same time, the world of the story is supported with wonderfully accurate prose, lovely images that are detailed and palpable. The accuracy itself gives the story a kind of tenderness and validity.”
